Each year, a select group of admitted student scholars is selected to join the President’s Global Leadership Development (GLD) Group to enhance their leadership skills and implement a global initiative in their sophomore year.

In their first year, individuals will meet with the President and other members of Wheaton’s senior leadership and faculty to create a strong leadership foundation. In their sophomore year, the GLD group will be awarded a fund of $10,000 to use together to enhance the international scope of the Wheaton community through innovation, social initiative or a campus project that will have the greatest impact on the campus.  Examples include sponsorship of high profile speakers, holding events for the student body, or anything else that will enhance the international richness of the Wheaton community through innovation, a social initiative, or campus service. The programming themes for the past two year’s were the global refugee crisis and a focus on women’s rights and empowerment globally.

Upon completion of their project, members of the GLD group are encouraged to continue their leadership development through other opportunities at Wheaton, such serving as a leader to one of our 100+ clubs and organizations, traveling with me or another faculty member on a global service trip, applying for post-graduate fellowship programs, and more.

Wheaton also offers a summer Global Leaders Program for high school students prior to the application process. Learn more about the program.
