Learning Outcomes

Students completing the major in French Studies at Wheaton will be able to,

with regard to language,

  • Speak and write French effectively, in formal and informal communications
  • Understand spoken and written French on a variety of topics both quotidian and academic
  • Achieve a French oral proficiency ranking of Intermediate High or better on the ACTFL scale

with regard to culture,

  • Demonstrate familiarity with historical events as well as literary and artistic movements of the Francophone world
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the language and literature of the Francophone world
  • Understand texts of all sorts in French, from the early modern period to the present
