All Wheaton College faculty, staff, and students must adhere to the travel guidelines outlined below. While travel is permitted at this time, unvaccinated individuals are strongly encouraged to delay travel until fully vaccinated.  All individuals should consult CDC Guidance prior to traveling.

For purposes of this policy, travel includes:

  • Visiting a destination more than 100 miles away from your residence; or
  • For residential students, visiting any destination overnight.

Personal Travel

Faculty and Staff
All fully vaccinated faculty and staff who engage in personal travel should resume your normal testing cadence upon returning to campus.  So long as you are asymptomatic, you may resume normal campus activities without waiting for the result.

All unvaccinated faculty and staff who engage in personal travel must be PCR tested within one day of your return from travel and again within 3-5 days of returning from travel and you should stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days (or 10 days if not testing) before coming to campus.  Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.  (Staff should work with their supervisors and faculty with their department chairs to receive usual approval for any time off and to discuss the implications of any required self-quarantine, including whether staff and faculty can work remotely during this time.)

Students
All fully vaccinated students who engage in personal travel should resume your normal testing cadence upon returning to campus.  So long as you are asymptomatic, you may resume normal campus activities without waiting for the result.

All unvaccinated students who engage in personal travel must be PCR tested within one day of your return from travel and again within 3-5 days of returning from travel.  So long as you are asymptomatic and have no known exposure to an infected person, you may resume in-person work and academic activities while following College masking and physical distancing policies.  For at least 7 days from the date of return and until you receive both negative test results, avoid unmasked close social activity, including social gatherings and dining with others.

College-Sponsored Travel

College-sponsored travel is permitted within the United States and to international destinations rated Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 for COVID-19 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  All College-sponsored travel remains subject to College approval, in its sole discretion.  While engaged in College-sponsored travel, faculty, staff and students must adhere to the protocols in place at the travel location and must continue to meet the on-campus protocols in place at the time of travel (for example, if required on campus to wear a mask indoors, individuals should mask when indoors while traveling).

Faculty and Staff
For fully vaccinated faculty and staff, College-sponsored travel is permitted so long as you complete the College’s travel registry and submit the COVID-19 travel waiver. All vaccinated faculty and staff who engage in College-sponsored travel should resume your normal testing cadence upon returning to campus.  So long as you are asymptomatic, you may resume normal campus activities without waiting for the result.

For unvaccinated faculty and staff, College-sponsored travel is permitted for only domestic events, meetings, and/or research that do not provide the participants with an option to attend virtually. All faculty and staff must complete the College’s travel registry and submit the COVID-19 travel waiver.  All unvaccinated faculty and staff who engage in College-sponsored travel must be PCR tested within one day of your return from travel and again within 3-5 days of returning from travel and you should stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days (or 10 days if not testing) before coming to campus.  Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.  (Faculty and Staff should work with their division officers to receive usual approval for College-sponsored travel and to discuss the implications of any required self-quarantine, including whether staff and faculty can work remotely during this time.)

All faculty and staff must complete the College’s travel registry and submit the COVID-19 travel waiver, located on the homepage of insideWheaton.

Students
For fully vaccinated students, College-sponsored travel is permitted so long as the usual SAIL approval processes are followed or other authorization is otherwise granted by the College. All vaccinated students who engage in College-sponsored travel should resume your normal testing cadence upon returning to campus. So long as you are asymptomatic, you may resume normal campus activities without waiting for the result.

For unvaccinated students, College-sponsored travel is permitted for only domestic events, meetings, and/or research that do not provide the participants with an option to attend virtually. Off Campus College-Sponsored Activities

For College-sponsored activities off campus that fall outside of the above definition of “travel,” faculty, staff and students must adhere to the protocols in place at the off-campus location and must continue to meet the on-campus protocols at the time of travel (for example, if required on campus to wear a mask indoors, individuals should mask when indoors while traveling).

Visitors

Visitors typically include vendors, contractors, family members or friends of a student or employee, prospective students and their families, alumni, and guest speakers. All visitors to campus and community members who invite them are expected to comply with the COVID-19 Visitor Policy and all college safety guidelines, including face coverings, symptom checks and physical distancing.

As of August 31, program attendees may attend college-sponsored performances, programs, or athletic events that are explicitly open to the public. All visitors are required to follow campus policies during their visit and must wear an appropriate mask or face covering at all times if indoors.
