The following instructions are here to help you navigate the federal student loan process at Wheaton College for the first time.  All first time federal student loan borrowers are required to complete this process before loan funds can be disbursed and show as credit on their student account.

Not sure if you have been awarded a federal student loan?
Students may view their current financial aid award through their Inside Wheaton account. Use your window PIN to log in then select Student Accounts and Financial Records to view your current financial aid award.

You must complete all requirements outlined below.

  1. Accept/Decline your loans:   Students do not need to accept their need based Federal Direct Subsidized loans. Students who are offered a non need based Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan need to accept (or decline) their loan(s) using the Federal Direct Loan Borrower Instructions (pdf).  If you do not wish to borrow your Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized loan(s) for the current academic year, you can decline all or part of your loan(s) online using the Federal Direct Loan Borrower Instructions (pdf) or by emailing your request to
  1. Complete your Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling:   Don’t forget to choose Wheaton College in Massachusetts at the end of your entrance counseling session so your confirmation is forwarded to us. Start your Federal Direct Loan Counseling Session here.
  1. Complete your Direct Loan Promissory Note:  The promissory note is a legally binding agreement to repay a loan between the student borrower and the Department of Education. A parent cannot complete the Direct Loan promissory note (or entrance interview) on the student’s behalf. Complete your Federal Direct Loan promissory note here.
