The Mechanical Trades Group is made up of the Utilities Department, the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Department, the Plumbing Department, and the Power Plant who all report to the Chief Engineer.
The Utilities Department is the group of steam firemen who operate the high-pressure boiler plant, which heats all of the 83 buildings on campus. During the heating season, which runs from mid-October through May, the crew of the power plant services the steam piping system campus-wide and the auxiliary equipment in the various buildings, including the power plant itself.
The HVAC Department is always busy maintaining heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems that range from fixing the refrigerators in our dining areas and residential housing across campus. Our ventilation systems fixing bad thermostats and radiators in dormitories.
The Plumbing Department handles all domestic water and sanitary issues, repairing broken sewer lines, cracked & broken drain lines to clogged toilets, sinks, tubs, dripping faucets and main drains.
