DiggingAbout Employment: A requirement of the job: Must love to work hard and get dirty! Three new positions have been created for student caretakers. The students spent the first year learning about the needs of tending to an orchard, and gathering information as a guide for future student caretakers and volunteers. A summer internship position has been created giving a student the chance to work in the orchard and in the nearby greenhouse from time to time.

Oversight: The Murphy Apple Orchard Oversight Committee for 2011-2012 is the most fruitful committee on campus! The committee meets monthly through the academic year. It is clear that the role of an oversight committee is vital to the ongoing wellness of the Murphy Apple Orchard, and in preserving the memory of Professor Jerry Murphy for whom the apple orchard is named. The collective knowledge of an oversight committee is needed to provide the level of guidance and direction for the orchard to grow into a sustainable, living and learning resource for the Wheaton Community.
