NASA-related research

Proposal

I am proposing to continue my NASA-related research, working on the following projects:

  1. Measuring the rotation periods of asteroids.  We are using our telescope in Australia to monitor the brightness of asteroids to determine how rapidly they are rotating.
  2. Photometry of satellites.  Using one of our telescopes at Wheaton, we are able to track and measure the changing brightnesses of satellites to determine how rapidly they are rotating.  This is useful information that NASA might need to de-orbit ones that pose a collision hazard to other satellites.
  3. Monitoring the moon to search for transient lunar phenomena (TLPs).  We are using one of our telescopes to take images of the moon over an extended period of time to look for subtle changes that might be evidence of current volcanism.
