A Wheaton Research Partnership student is needed to conduct optical measurements on materials for possible use in next generation lighting devices. Recent publications in the literature indicate a new scheme that could allow for the design of a new class of efficient phosphor materials. Groups in France and in Italy will provide us with several different materials, and we will study how these materials absorb and emit light. The goal of this international collaboration is to design a material that can strongly absorb blue and ultraviolet light and that will efficiently convert that energy into green and/or red light for use in lighting and display applications.
