Composition and rhetoric as scholarly fields

Scholarship in composition and rhetoric is rich and varied, ranging from studies of rhetorical principles in Ancient Greece to discourse analyses of Instant Messages. Compositionists explore, for example, how people compose texts, how they attempt to revise those texts, and what effects those texts have on their writers and the world around them. By raising questions about literacy, compositionists interrogate issues of beauty and truth, institutional access, and, ultimately, power.
