Neil Simon Debut at Wheaton

Hannah Lackoff Directs First Neil Simon Play At Wheaton

If you've ever visited the theatre's box office, you've probably talked with Hannah Lackoff '07. As both the co-manager of the Box Office and the student assistant for Betsy Cronin, Hannah certainly spends a lot of time in that little office in the Watson lobby. This week, however, Hannah will be reserving tickets for her own show - The Gingerbread Lady by Neil Simon. On top of the pressures of directing, working and studying, Hannah is also thinking ahead to life after Wheaton. "I'm looking at internships at theatres...I'd definitely like to stay in the theatre world for a while and see what's out there." As a double-major senior and a seasoned theatre veteran, Hannah has things under control. Juggling all of these responsibilities just means that Hannah has "to stay focused in a lot of different areas while still trying to make sure [to] get some sleep at night."

On November 30th, Wheaton will experience two firsts: Neil Simon on the Wheaton stage and Hannah Lackoff '07 directing a full-length play. Hannah has directed pieces in directing courses, the Ten-Minute Play Festival, and the Café Theatre, but never a full-length play. The Gingerbread Lady, by Neil Simon, attracted Hannah because it is both funny and dark. Instead of assigning an overall meaning to the play, Hannah says she will "let this show speak for itself." Break a leg, Hannah!

The Gingerbread Lady. Written by Neil Simon, directed by Hannah Lackoff '07, November 30, December 1 & 2, 7:30 p.m., Kresge Experimental Theatre, Watson Fine Arts. Tickets are complimentary but must be reserved in advance by calling the Watson Box Office, 508-286-3575.
