Links to images or PDF files on the college’s server:
Your web page can link to images and PDF files; these may be existing files or ones you placed on the college’s server using an FTP application (such as ws_ftp or Fetch). If you need assistance with FTP or Fetch please see Job Aids 7 (for Mac users) or 8 (for PC users).
To link to an image, copy the link location of your image by right clicking (on a Windows machine) or control clicking (on a Mac) while your cursor is on that image or pdf in FTP/Fetch. Choose “Copy Fetch address”.
Now go back to the web editor (Frontier) and navigate to the page where you would like that image displayed. Click on the “picture” icon
in the menu bar and paste the link location you copied earlier next to “image url”. You will have to manually erase the first part of the address – your wID and the “@frontier” section (see blue highlighted section below). You want the address to start with a backslash ( / ) and then the folder you were working in. Click “Insert” and then “save and publish the page”.

To link to a PDF file, copy the link location of that file from FTP/Fetch by right clicking (on a PC) or control clicking (on a Mac) while your cursor is on the image or pdf in FTP/Fetch. A menu will appear and you should choose “Copy Fetch address”.
Now go back to the web editor and navigate to the page where you would like to link to the PDF file. Highlight the word or words that will become the link and click on the “link” icon
in the menu bar. Copy the PDF file’s FTP/Fetch address next to “link url”. You will have to manually erase the first part of the address – your wID and the “@frontier” section (highlighted in blue below). You want the address to start with a backslash ( / ) and then the folder you were working in. Click on “insert” and then “save and publish your page”.

Links to other pages on Wheaton’s site:
Links to pages on Wheaton’s server do not need to include the "http://www.wheatoncollege.edu" at the beginning. A link to the About Wheaton home page, for example, should be written like this, beginning with a slash: /About/home.html
Similarly, you can remove a link by putting your cursor anywhere in the link text, then clicking on the “Unlink” button. ![]()
