Introduction to web editing

The Web Strategy Team welcomes you to the world of web editing. Keeping your web page up to date is a crucial part of your role at Wheaton. Please keep in mind that your audiences include potential students, current students, parents, guidance counselors, fellow employees, faculty, alumni and other colleges looking to see what Wheaton has to offer. It can be challenging to address all of these groups but it can be done successfully with forethought and planning. Take the time to think about your message and what you would like to say about your department. Plan your navigation and setup before you begin. Keep your information up to date so that your audiences will continue to visit your site. Finally, if you find that your department has information that would only be appropriate and interesting to current students, faculty or staff then contact us to see if we can showcase your content in insideWheaton.

Please take some time to read through the job aids and to view our screencasts. We are also happy to sit down with you for one on one training. You can contact our office at web@wheatoncollege.edu or x3506.

Before you begin, please read through the following prerequisites and software requirements.

Prerequisites:

Our directions assume that you have had some experience with a simple word processing tool such as Word. If you do not know how to use a word processing program you may want to obtain some training from LIS. Look here for training.

Requirements:

Flash:

You must have Flash to view our Screencast training sessions. Flash can be downloaded here.

Browser:

We require that all web site editors use the browser Firefox. It is available for download here.

PDF:

If you want to post documents from Word, Excel, PowerPoint or other programs on your web site they must be converted into PDF format.  You can save your documents as PDF files through versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint included in Microsoft Office 2007. Office 2007 is available through the Help Desk.
