Wallace Library Second Entrance Now Open
The “backdoor” [current handicapped-accessible entrance] of the Wallace Library, facing the new Mars Center for Science and Technology, will be open as a second entrance to the Library starting this Fall. The entrance will provide an easy connection between the Library and the Science complex during the hours of 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 8 AM - 3 PM, Friday.
Nook Color E-Readers available for loan
Over the summer, staff and faculty were able to try out the six Nook Color E-Readers to help us prepare for student and campus-wide use in the fall. We’re eager to hear your suggestions for book titles to add to the Nooks! Any and all ideas for their use are welcome. Submit your requests here: ereader@wheatoncollege.edu
Portable DVD players available for loan
The Library recently purchased two Sony 9-Inch portable DVD players for in-library use when checking out DVDs on course reserve. These will provide an alternative to the use of viewing rooms or viewing stations in the library.
New Student Study Area, Periodicals Level, Wallace Library
We’ve done some redecorating during the Summer! Come enjoy our new study space, with additional seating and enhanced wireless access, located next to the new entrance to the library.
Patio Seating Now Available
We’ve opened up the Library Patio for everyone to enjoy! Located off the Reference Reading Room, the Patio now has tables with umbrellas, and will be accessible during the hours of 8 AM-6 PM, Monday to Friday. Come enjoy the outdoors, and an excellent view of the new Mars Center for Science and Technology.
Mac Lab in the Library
The Stacks Level Electronic Classroom is now equipped with 12 Macs and an instructor station. Each Mac is equipped with standard Mac software, including iMovie, and Microsoft Office. When the lab is not being used for library instruction sessions, it will be available as a general purpose computer lab.
OnCourse Enhancements
Attendance module - this had been requested by a number of faculty and is now in place. You can find attendance in the drop down menu for "add an activity". Options are - present, late, excused, absent. It will automatically create an item in the gradebook should you want to use attendance as part of the overall grade. Here's a demo of the attendance module .
Liaison role - You can now add your library or technology liaison to your onCourse class in the "Liaison role." This role can upload files, create activities but cannot access your gradebook or change your course settings.
Drag & drop functionality - No more endless mouse clicking to arrange your front page! Now it just takes one click to drag and drop activities or resources between topic areas. Blocks can be moved using this method as well. Just grab the block by holding down your mouse and when you get it located release your finger from the mouse. There is no icon for moving blocks. Here's a demo of how Drag & Drop works.
LAE gradebook report - this is an option you can choose instead of the default grader report. It does the following:
- freezes student row and column headings when scrolling right/left or up/down
- has a button to export your gradebook to Excel
- does not limit the number of students listed on a page
- does not allow for collapsing or expanding categories
