Library and Information Services would like to announce the availability of a new Webmail interface designed to provide a better, more robust experience with similar functionality one might expect from a stand-alone e-mail client like Thunderbird or Apple Mail. The new interface contains many advantages over the older Webmail interface such as the ability to:
+ Drag and drop messages into folders
+ Auto-complete e-mail addresses from the Wheaton Public Directory
+ Set up multiple sending personalities
+ View all folders readily
+ Manage messages via right-click contextual menus
We recommend this new Webmail interface to ALL Students, Staff and Faculty that use Webmail with one exception; the new Webmail interface is not optimized for use on smaller screens like smartphones or Netbooks. If you frequently access Webmail via a browser on such devices, please continue to use the existing Webmail interface.
To try the new Webmail interface, complete the following steps:
1.) Log into Webmail.
2.) Click the "General" link on the left under the "Settings" section.
3.) Locate the "Layout:" option and select "LookOut_3.6.9b" in the pulldown menu.
4.) Click the "Apply" button in the top right.
5.) Log out of Webmail then log back in.
For best results, use the Firefox web browser version 3.5 or higher on your PC or Mac. The LIS Technical Support Staff officially supports version 7 of Internet Explorer but the developers of this new Webmail interface suggest using Internet Explorer version 8. You can still use version 7 but there may be issues that do not occur in another browser such as Firefox. If you wish to use the Safari web browser on a Macintosh make sure you are running version 3.1 or higher.
If you need assistance using this new Webmail interface you can:
1.) Click on the "FAQ" button located in the top right hand corner when you are using the new interface.
2.) Contact the Library and Information Services Technical Support staff at 508.286.3900 or at support@wheatoncollege.edu .
If you would like to switch back to the previous Webmail interface after trying the new interface, do the following:
1.) Click the "Settings" button in the top right corner.
2.) In the window that appears, click the "General" tab.
3.) Locate the "Layout:" option and select "* SPID_1.4.2a" in the pulldown menu.
4.) Click the "Save" button then the "Close" button.
5.) Log out of Webmail then log back in.
If you are a Staff or Faculty member we highly suggest using a full-featured e-mail client, such as Thunderbird, as your primary client and to use Webmail when you are accessing mail from off campus.
