Details: Network switching equipment which provides wired network service in Everett Hall (floors 1-3) is malfunctioning and requires replacement.  Network switching equipment which provides network service in KCCL (wired and wireless) is also malfunctioning and requires replacement.  The equipment in both locations will be replaced during the Thursday evening maintenance window.  Network access, as outlined above, in these locations will be down or intermittent during the maintenance window.

2008 – 19 infringements
2009 – 18 infringements
2010 – 23 infringements
2011 - 6 infringements (so far)

Though file sharing through Peer to Peer (P2P) software has become commonplace in its use in distributing copyrighted material it is a violation of Federal Law. You may be familiar with some Peer-to-Peer (P2P) sharing programs, Ares, Bearshare, BitTorrent, Kazaa, Limewire, Morpheus, or Instant Messenger file transfers but their use for sharing copyrighted materials is illegal.

What: Disposal of Confidential Paper Records in secure CINTAS labeled bins
Why: To be sure confidential information on paper is shredded and destroyed securely
Details:
How to Dispose of records with personal and/or confidential information.

All such paper must be shredded. Wheaton College uses a National AAA-NAID certified company (CINTAS) for the secure destruction of paper records. This is the preferred method for shredding documents containing personal/confidential information. Before placing paper in these bins be sure they are locked and labeled with the CINTAS Security Container label.

* CINTAS security container bins are available in the following locations:
o (1) Park Hall basement
o (1) Library ground floor
o (2) Admissions Building/SFS
o (3) Mary Lyon Hall Basement
o (1) Kollett Center for Collaborative Learning
o (1) 10 Library Square
o (2) Doll's House

Who: Users of ESET NOD32 Antivirus on Windows Operating System Computers
What: Required upgrade of ESET NOD32 anti-virus software
Why: To protect your computer from the latest malware and viruses
When: As soon as possible

Details:

LIS, has recently seen an increase in computers becoming infected by malware which use highly aggressive marketing tactics such as system tray security alerts, pop-ups and bogus system scans containing false results. Our anti-virus / anti-malware software vendor, ESET, has responded to this problem by issuing an update to its ESET NOD32 application.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

The update requires users to manually upgrade their anti-virus software. Please follow the directions below to complete your upgrade. We recommend you print them out before following them. The whole upgrade will take less than five minutes to do.

1. Click on the Start menu and select “Run.”  If using Windows Vista or Windows 7, skip to number 2.
2. In the “Open:” field (or the “Search” field at the bottom of your Start Menu if using Windows Vista or Windows 7), enter “\\netspace.wheatonma.edu\shared” (without the quotes) and click “OK” or press the <enter> key on your keyboard.
3. If prompted for a username and password, log in using “WC\” (without the quotes) followed by your wID number as the username (“WC\w00000000”, for example), and your email password as the password.
4. Double-click the “software” folder.
5. Double-click the “ESET” folder.
6. Double-click the appropriate folder [32-bit Windows (Staff and Faculty machines)] or [64-bit Windows (Newer Student machines)].  If you aren’t certain whether you are using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, please contact Technology Support at x3900.
7. Drag the “copy me to desktop” folder to your Desktop.
8. Close the netspace window.
9. Double-click the “copy me to desktop” folder from your desktop.
10. Double-click the “RunMe.bat” file.
11. Click OK/Run/Allow to any security prompts.
12. Wait for the installer to complete (when you see the ESET robot splash screen, the installation is complete).
13. Restart your computer
