  Details: In our continuing effort to improve LIS services, we will be upgrading some telephone equipment on campus during our regular maintenance window, Thursday, May 23rd between 4:30pm and 8:30pm . During this time we do not expect any issues because we have redundant phone switches but we wanted to notify you that this work will be taking place. Should any phone service be interrupted know that we are working on the system and it will be back upon completion of the work.

  Details: If you have received this email message then you are on our list of email users that are still pointing to our old mail server called (mail2.wheatonma.edu) either on a college owned or home computer, cellphone, iPhone, iPad, or other mobile device. The LIS Technical Infrastructure department will be decommissioning the old mail server on Thursday May 23rd at 8:30am.

  What you need to do: You will need to delete the (mail2.wheatonma.edu). If you do not remove your connection to the old email server (mail2.wheatonma.edu) by this date, your email application could begin displaying warning messages.

  How you need to do it: If you receive the warning message you can remove the old account information in one of two ways: 1. Follow the directions below or 2. Call 508.286.3900 and we will walk you through it.

  If you use Thunderbird go to Accounts and right mouse click on the old account (mail2.wheatonma.edu) and select "Settings..." then select "Account Actions" then "Remove Account".
  If you use an iPhone/iPad you can go to the "Settings" app then "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and locate the old email account and remove it.

  Greetings!

  Technology Support staff will be combing the campus beginning May 14th to conduct a technology inventory. We will be popping into offices to inventory monitors, desktop and laptop computers, scanners, printers, and any other mobile or smart devices that belong to the college.

  While in your office if there is a piece of equipment that is not with you and belongs to the college please let the staff person know so we can make note of the device.

  We are conducting this inventory to be sure we have a record of all college property and to be sure we know the exact location of any Windows XP computer that needs to be replaced BEFORE March 2014. I'm sure you know by now that in April 2014 Microsoft will stop supporting the Windows XP operating system so to protect the data that is stored on these computers we need to replace them before this date.

  Why: Reminder - Distributing copyrighted materials without the consent of the owner is against federal law. It is Wheaton policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement.

  DETAILS: DMCA infringements over the last 6+ years:
  2007 – 111 infringements
  2008 – 19 infringements
  2009 – 18 infringements
  2010 – 23 infringements
  2011 - 40 infringements
  2012 - 38 infringements
  2013 - 11 infringements (so far)

  Though file sharing through Peer to Peer (P2P) software has become commonplace in its use in distributing copyrighted material it is a violation of Federal Law. You may be familiar with some Peer-to-Peer (P2P) sharing programs, Ares, Bearshare, BitTorrent, Kazaa, Limewire, Morpheus, or Instant Messenger file transfers but their use for sharing copyrighted materials is illegal.
