GIS is not for the faint of heart, but Wheaton has a long history of innovation, incorporating GIS into the liberal arts curriculum.  Several of these stories are featured in the Esri Press book, Understanding Place: GIS and Mapping Across the Curriculum Most recently, students in Professor Gabriela Torres' Urban Anthropology course located and classified graffiti in a neighboring town. They coded the graffiti to differentiate between vandalism and self-expression, and considered correlations with various demographic factors relevant to the youth culture. ArcGIS Desktop is installed in the GIS Lab, located in the Mars Center for Science & Technology, Room 3100. In addition, Wheaton has ArcGIS Online licenses available for students, faculty and staff.  Alternatively, a free 30-day trial of ArcGIS Online is available. If you are interested in maps or mapping, contact Jenni Lund at lund_jenni@wheatoncollege.edu.
