Microsoft Support Changes
Posted on November 22, 2013
Who: Wheaton College Faculty, Staff, and Students
What: REMINDER about changes in Microsoft Support
Details: As LIS previously reported Microsoft will be retiring Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 on April 8, 2014.
What this means: On April 8, 2014, Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 will no longer be supported by Microsoft. Microsoft will no longer issue updates or security patches for this software. Continued use of Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 after April 2014 will present security risks to data stored on these machines.
What we’re doing: LIS has been preparing for this date by either upgrading Windows XP to Windows 7 (dependent on the computer) or by replacing college owned XP operating system computers as funding has allowed. As of December 1, 2013 each faculty and staff designated primary computer running Windows XP will either have been updated to Windows 7 or replaced. All public computing in the Wallace Library has been updated.
The current college standards for software include Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Office 2011 for Macs. If you are currently using Microsoft Office 2003 please follow the directions found here to upgrade to the newest version: https://wcweb.wheatonma.edu/software/login.php. If you have a problem downloading the new version please contact Tech Support at X3900.
Please contact LIS Tech Support at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions regarding the change in Microsoft support.
