Wheaton Initiative for Leadership Learning

Wheaton Initiative for Leadership Learning's (WILL) committee is a cross-divisional working group comprised of staff, students, and faculty who have designed a comprehensive approach to student leadership development for the Wheaton College community.

Goal

To develop an integrated approach to student leadership in an effort to develop culturally sensitive, globally aware student leaders able to sustain their organizations, deal with a myriad of constituencies, and manage the challenges of leadership in a dynamic community.

Objectives

  • To enhance the Wheaton experience for students
  • To help students identify "what we are about" / creating standards of behavior - expectations for outcomes
  • To help students build transferable skills
  • To increase the level of sophistication and responsibility of student leaders

Institutional Outcome

To institutionalize a leadership identity development model (Komives, et. al), that emphasizes skill development and higher level leadership learning designed to motivate students to move from a positional to a relational model of leadership.
