Sophomore Symposium Class of 2015

Posted on January 28, 2013

Students of the Class of 2015 rose early on Saturday morning to attend the 2013 Sophomore Symposium. An annual event offered to sophomores, the Symposium helps students make the best career path choices as they plan ahead and progress through their remaining undergraduate course of study. The theme for this year's Symposium was "Mapping Your Future."

By 9:00 a.m., Watson concourse had transformed into a flash mob setting of students as far as the eye could see.  While getting students out of bed for an early event on a Saturday morning might seem a bit risky this program has a history of success. First offered in 2007 as "Sophomore Halftime," the program has grown each year. As was the case in 2007, the program provides sophomore attendees with opportunities to network with alums, faculty, staff, and other professionals in the workplace who participate in the various workshops, roundtable discussions, and Q&A sessions. Discussions also serve to build awareness of campus resources available to students now as they start mapping out their future while seeing themselves as future alums.

The program concluded at the end of the day with a repeat of the same enthusiastic gathering of about 200 students coming to collect the prized gray fleece, embellished on the back with the bright yellow class year "15." Collaboration of faculty, staff, alums, and student volunteers--all offering their time and advice to pay it forward in a sharing community made it worth it to get out of bed early on a Saturday.
