Alternative Winter Break to New Orleans (NOLA) is celebrating our 5th year anniversary! In August of 2005 Hurricane Katrina left much of New Orleans in ruins. Every year since then, the Alternative Winter Break group has organized a trip during Winter break which exemplifies Wheaton’s dedication to service.
For the past few years while in New Orleans, we have stayed at the Annunciation Mission, a parish in New Orleans that houses and feeds student groups volunteering in the city. We work with Rebuilding Together, a program that has been established to help rebuild many of the houses in New Orleans, especially homes belonging to the elderly, the disabled, and families with children. The trip is a lot of hard work and is very eye-opening, and at the same time very fun and rewarding!
