The 2013-2014 Federal Verification Process
Posted on May 10, 2013
Has your 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) been selected for verification? The Department of Education randomly selects students for the federal verification process each year. When this happens, a school may be required to collect additional information from a family in order to verify the data that was entered on their FAFSA.
Not sure if your FAFSA was selected for verification? Students can check their FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR). The Student Aid Report is sent to the email address listed on your FAFSA after the application has been submitted. The first page of your SAR contains important information and will indicate if you have been selected for the federal verification process.
As part of the verification process, the Office of Student Financial Services may ask you to submit additional information such as IRS Tax Return Transcripts, a Federal Verification Worksheet, and/or a Federal Verification Supplement. It is important to submit any additional requested documents as soon as possible so as not to delay your financial aid application.
Detailed instructions regarding the federal verification process are available here.
