Student Animal Caretaker
A reliable, responsible, and dedicated animal caretaker is needed for the fall semester to help maintain the Animal Facility, with the possibility of being hired for the spring semester. This position will be for 1-2 days a week for approximately 2 hours a day. Specific hours are flexible, with an occasional weekend day as needed.
The Student Animal Caretaker will be responsible for handling, feeding, changing water, cleaning caging, and changing bedding. They will be responsible for assisting in the care of Wheaton’s zebrafish colony. This position reports to the Animal Facilities Supervisor.
The Student Animal Caretaker must be able to work independently and follow directions. Also, they must have no known (or controlled) allergies to animals or animal bedding, and be able to show proof of a recent (within the last 5 years) tetanus vaccination. This job requires the ability to lift heavy objects on occasion. This job involves the handling and care of various animal species (rodents, amphibians, fish, insects, etc.) Preferably, the ideal candidate will have experience with animals, but this is not a requirement as students are fully trained.
