The Application Process

Resident Advisors (RA) are hired for an entire academic year and that process happens in the Spring semester prior.  Applications are typically due in late February.

RA positions open up after the fall semester for many different reasons. The mid-year application process seeks to hire RAs for the spring semester and applications are usually due in November.

STEP 1

Complete an application. Your completed application will include:

1. A resume and cover letter (find details inside the application)
2. Two letters of recommendation from people familiar with your work. This could include faculty, academic advisors, current or former employers, RAs, coaches, or administrators.

STEP 2

When you submit your application to the front desk at Residential Life, you will also sign up for an individual interview.

STEP 3

RA Interview Day will be held on a Saturday in late February or early March.. On Interview Day, the dress code is business casual, but wear comfortable clothing as you will be moving around. A sample schedule of the day would be as follows:

9:00 AM - Check in (All - Balfour Hood Atrium)
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Group Interview Process (All)
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM - Lunch (On your own)
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Individual Interviews (Your interview time slot only)

For the mid-year application process, interviews will be scheduled over a week in November. Sign up for a time slot at the front desk of the Office of Residential Life on the 3rd floor of Balfour-Hood.

STEP 4

All candidates will receive an update on the status of their application in the weeks following Interview Day . If you are selected as a Resident Advisor, you will need to sign and return your contract (sent to your campus mailbox or by email).

STEP 5

RA Training will begin about a week and half prior to classes starting - typically on a Friday in mid-August.  RAs should expect to be committed during that time up until the beginning of classes. For mid-year hires, Winter training begins in mid-January the week before classes start for the spring semester.
