Convergence Columns
in the Wheaton Quarterly

"Convergence" pieces by President Crutcher appear in most issues of the Wheaton Quarterly, a publication dedicated to informing and entertaining Wheaton College graduates and the entire college community. (If you are a Wheaton alum and are not receiving college publications, please contact us.)

In "Convergence," the president shares his views on higher education, his reflections on Wheaton and his vision for the future of the college.

  • Summer 2007 - "Making science a hot topic." (Liberal arts colleges play an important role in meeting the challenges we face as a society by producing future leaders conversant with scientific methodology and able to act on complex information.)
  • Fall 2006 - "Our Shared Inheritance." (Education represents the passing of humanity's most precious asset, knowledge, from one generation to the next.)
  • Summer 2006 - "Accountability, where it counts." (Colleges and universities must embrace their individual and collective responsibility to evaluate and demonstrate the value of higher education.)
  • Spring 2006 - "Diversity is an issue of quality for all." (Diversity in our student body, our faculty, and our staff is not simply a matter of social justice but a necessity for achieving true excellence in higher education.)
  • Winter 2006 - "Seeing Wheaton's future." (A vision for the college in the decade ahead, as articulated through the strategic plan and campus master plan.)
  • Fall 2005 - "A call for service." (A commitment to changing the world for the better is part of the Wheaton ethos.)
  • Summer 2005 - "At Wheaton, students take flight." (Students reach their full potential with a Wheaton education, and they leave the college better than they found it.)
  • Spring 2005 - "Good planning: wise choices must preserve our distinctive character." (I have been hearing about life and planning from alumnae/i and parents around the country.)
  • Winter 2005 - "The thrill of discovery˘from the classroom to Cassini." (Teaching and mentoring are among Wheaton's greatest strengths.)
  • Fall 2004 - "A buffet for the curious" (inaugural column).
