CAMPUS NEWS AND EVENTS
Commencement Reunion--Save the date
Freeman Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and a leading advocate for high-achieving minority students in science, will address the Class of 2007 at the college's 172nd Commencement on Saturday, May 19. Graduates of classes ending in "7" or "2" will also celebrate their reunion that weekend, May 18-20. Look for your reunion invitation in the mail in March. (More on Commencement speaker.)
Volunteer mission to New Orleans
During January break, 32 Wheaton students and two staff members spent a week in New Orleans, where they refurbished five local parks that had been left in shambles by Hurricane Katrina. (Read more.)
ACE leader
The American Council on Education (ACE) has elected Wheaton President Ronald Crutcher to serve on the organization's board of directors. ACE is a national voice for higher education on key public policy issues. (Read more.)
Spotlight on 85 Broads
On February 12, the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric highlighted 85 Broads, the network begun by Wheaton alumna Janet Tiebout Hanson '74 to connect and empower women in the workforce as well as women graduate and undergraduate students from the world's leading colleges and universities:

ATHLETICS
Making a splash
The women's swimming and diving team placed fourth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship for the third straight season, matching a program-best showing and breaking 14 college records in the process. (More.)
