National laurels
Political science major Myles Matteson '06 has been named a Marshall Scholar for 2006, earning scholarship support for two years of graduate study in the United Kingdom (read more). Russian Studies major Michael Freese '08 will study in Russia next semester with the support of a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship (read more).

Hearst Foundation renews support for scholarships
The William Randolph Hearst Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to Wheaton to support scholarships for students of color. The contribution will further augment an endowed scholarship fund established by the foundation in 1993. (More)

A new look at a classic
Classics professor Joel Relihan offers a new interpretation of the classic literary work Consolation of Philosophy in a book published by the University Press of Notre Dame. (More)

ATHLETICS

Payum Payman '07 helps bring Middle East culture to Wheaton
Tennis student-athlete Payum Payman and five friends wanted to do their part to break down stereotypes and showcase the positive aspects of Middle Eastern cultures, so last November they brought two Persian pop stars to campus for a benefit concert. Their project raised $10,000 for the International Red Cross and drew notice from the NCAA News, which did a feature story on the subject. (Read article.)
