Wheaton senior named Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar
Brittany Krupica '07, a double major in French and Global Ecological Justice, has won a 2006-07 Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship for a year of study abroad. Krupica will use the $26,000 award to study at Cambridge University in England, beginning in the fall. (Read more)
Leadership role for President Crutcher
Wheaton President Ronald A. Crutcher and a senior official at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting are leading a nationwide campaign to promote the importance of liberal education in sustaining America's competitiveness and its democratic values. The campaign, Liberal Education and America's Promise (LEAP), is an initiative of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). (Read more)

Good news from the Admission Office
More than 3,600 students have applied for admission to the Class of 2010. They represent 47 states and 40 different countries. As you read this newsletter, admission counselors are poring over their applications to determine who among them will be offered one of the 420 places in the first-year class. Stay tuned for more information next month after decision letters have been mailed.

'Control Room' star to speak on campus
Former U.S. Marine Lt. Colonel Josh Rushing, the accidental star of Jehane Noujaim's 2004 documentary Control Room, will speak at Wheaton on Tuesday, March 28, as part of a weeklong series of events to mark the third anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. His lecture, entitled "Confessions of a Former Spin Doctor: From Marine Spokesperson to Al Jazeera Journalist," will discuss the war, the film and his new professionas a journalist for the leading Arabic news organization. Gallery exhibitions, concerts, visiting poets, stage productions ... There's something for everyone on the Wheaton arts calendar this spring. On March 8, the popular Loser Concert Series will present baritone Robert Honeysucker, renowned for his performances in opera and on concert stage. (Read more.)

Make a wish, Mozart
On April 30, the college will celebrate Mozart's 250th birthday with a performance of the great composer's Requiem. Under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Tim Harbold, the Wheaton Chorale and Chamber Singers will be joined by alumnae/i, faculty, staff and community members in this gala performance. Meet a masterpiece
The Wheaton Friends of Art invite alumnae/i, students and friends to a special event on April 11, 2006, at Boston College. Titled "Sacred/Secular," the evening will include an exhibition of Wheaton's recently acquired15th-century manuscript, the DuBourg Book of Hours, and an introductory lecture by art history professor Evelyn Lane. A roaring good contest
A weekend of fun and friendly competition is in store for Wheaton students on March 24-26 during the Battle of the Classes: The Hunt for Lyon Pride. Members of all four classes will compete in touch football, tug-o-war and more, with the triumphant class snagging a prize. Co-sponsored by the Student Alumnae/i Association (SAA) and the junior class officers, the weekend will also include a Saturday night coffeehouse at the Lyon's Den, featuring the pop-folk duo of Barbara Pecirep '03 and Zach Hurd '03, known as Causeway. The music begins at 8 p.m.

ATHLETICS
Nothin' but net
The men's basketball team captured its second consecutive Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament championship as the Lyons knocked off Rhode Island College, 83-78, in Providence Saturday night. Brian Zukowski '07 was named the tournament's most outstanding player following his 29-point performance. (Read more )
