Dewar is Wheaton's third Rhodes Scholar since 2001
Senior Alexander Dewar, who is studying political science and plans to pursue a career in climate change policy, has been named a Rhodes Scholar for 2006. Dewar is one of 32 college students nationwide to earn the prestigious award, and the third Wheaton student since 2001 to do so. (More)
More honors for Wheaton students
Two other students have garnered national honors for 2006:
- Valerie Tobia '07 will study apartheid at Rhodes University in South Africa next semester with the support of Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Tobia, a psychology major, will compare post-apartheid South Africa to America after desegregation. (More)
- Stanley Ellicott '07 has won a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship to study in Russia during spring semester 2006. Ellicott, who is double majoring in economics and Russian language and literature, is studying this semester in Denmark. (More)
Foundation grant supports quantitative analysis initiative
Wheaton has won a grant of $99,500 from the Teagle Foundation to expand the reach of quantitative analysis (QA) in the college's multidisciplinary curriculum. The multifaceted project will explore new pedagogical approaches and develop a course in which students tackle math-related problems for business clients. (More)

Winning ways
Wheaton's winter teams are off to winning starts. The men's and women's basketball teams each captured their respective tip-off tournament championships last month, while the men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their seasons with their best starts in program history.
