Leading the way to the future
The remarkable strength of Wheaton today is a testament to the leadership of President Dale Rogers Marshall, said Board of Trustees chair Patricia A. King '63, speaking after the president announced that she would step down in June 2004.
The college is now well-positioned to welcome a new leader and a presidential search committee is being formed to lead the effort. (more)
Chem professor earns two environmental research grants
Methyl mercury contamination in Boston Harbor could pose a significant health threat to coastal communities. Assistant Professor of Chemistry Jani Benoit. The environmental chemist has earned grant funding to continue faculty-student research into how this potent neurotoxin is produced, and how it might be managed. (more)
Conducting leadership
Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart comes to Wheaton on April 3 as part of the Jane E. Ruby Lecture Series. Since his appointment as Boston pops maestro seven years ago, Lockhart has led more than 500 Pops concerts in 18 world tours. His topic: Qualities of Leaders: The Orchestra as a Metaphor for Life. It's been an exciting few months in the pool at Wheaton. The synchro team moonlighted as movie stars in a Julia Roberts flick; the men's and women's swim teams shattered 20 school records in the last few weeks.

Local sportswriter Paul Teves speculated recently on the secrets of Wheaton's prominent athletic success, saying, "So what is Wheaton doing right? What's the secret to building an athletic department that vaulted into the Top 25 nationally and Top 5 regionally in the NCAA Division III Sears standings?
