Commencement Reunion weekend 2003
Wheaton's campus was alive with festivities last month as we congratulated the Class of 2003 and welcomed back nearly 600 alumnae/i. Commencement speaker David Levering Lewis S'63 urged the graduates to be active participants in our nation's democracy, asserting that "the considerable social gains of the last 50 years are only as authentic and as enduring as your vigilant guardianship makes them." (Full transcript.) Lewis shared the dais with fellow honorary degree recipients Esther Newberg '63, Patricia Phelps de Cisneros '69, and Catherine Keener '83. (Read their remarks.) And though the weather was variable, the smiles of the graduates were sunny indeed. Revisit the day via our online photo album.

Summertime, and the livin' is easy
From the blooming of the rhododendrons in June to the flowering of the hydrangeas in August, Wheaton is a beautiful place all summer long. It also offers superb facilities, fine food, and very friendly people. No wonder it's becoming such a popular venue for summer workshops, camps and conferences. If you're looking for a place to hold your special summer event next year, check out our Events and Conferences Web pages.

You make the difference
Your support of the Annual Fund helps bridge the gap between tuition and the true cost of a Wheaton education. Our June 30 deadline is in sight, and so is our $3,000,000 goal for fiscal year '03. As we enter the home stretch, every gift is essential. Show your pride in the college by investing in the next generation of Wheaton students--link to OnLyon now to make your gift to the Annual Fund. This is your Wheaton.

New on the Web

"From the Top" at Wheaton: an online reprise
The weekly radio show "From the Top," taped live at the Weber Theatre in April, featured talented young classical musicians from around the country. If you missed the show's recent broadcast on public radio (or want to catch it again), visit the show's Web site and listen online.

Athletics

Wheaton women are the fleetest in the land
The Wheaton College women's outdoor track and field team captured its third consecutive NCAA Division III Championship on May 24 in Canton, New York. Having also won the indoor crown earlier this spring, the Lyons are now the first NCAA Division III women's track program to sweep the indoor and outdoor national titles three straight years. Read more about it and share the excitement.

Wheaton Quarterly
Check your mailbox for a postcard from the Wheaton Quarterly with special information about our recently mailed Summer 2003 issue (also available online). If you received a magazine listing the wrong recipient on the mailing label, please be assured that the college does have your correct name and address. The label errors were the result of a mistake on the part of the mailhouse that ships the Quarterly. If you did not receive your summer issue, let us know by June 20, and we'll send you a copy. Send us the reply card attached to your postcard, or call 800-896-3145 (option 1). Or simply send an e-mail now to quarterly@wheatoncollege.edu.
