GERMAN MAJORS TRAVEL TO BERLIN TO MAKE DOCUMENTARY FILM

As follow up to Junior Year Abroad, seniors Danielle Taylor and Anna Venishnick weren't content to complete ho-hum senior projects. Instead, they planned all year for a spring break trip to Berlin, aiming to film a documentary on youth culture after the fall of the Berlin Wall. (The project is funded by Wheaton; Eric Denton, assistant professor of German, is advising the senior students.)

The filmmakers began taking footage March 10. Here is a clip of their work-in-progress:

PROFESSOR JOSH STENGER GEARS UP FOR OSCAR NIGHT, OFFERS ONLINE CLASS

Star Wars is the first movie that Josh Stenger, assistant professor of film studies and literature, remembers watching. But the film debuted when he was just 6 and hadn't yet honed his approach to critical theory. Now, Stenger prepares to lead an online short course on the Oscars for graduates of Wheaton and parents of students. There's still time to register for the course and delve into the Hollywood dirt. WEBER THEATRE DEBUTS WITH DANCE CONCERT

On Friday, March 22, Wheaton's new Weber Theatre in Watson Fine Arts hosted its debut performance, "Breaking Bounds." The Wheaton College Dance Company performed the dance concert under the direction of Cheryl Mrozowski, assistant professor of theatre.

RUBY LECTURES SLATED FOR SPRING

On Monday, March 25, Dr. E. D. Hirsch, Jr., will lecture on 'Democracy and the Curriculum Wars.' The presentation is part of the Jane E. Ruby Humanities Lecture series. On Wednesday, April 10, 2002, Mary Catherine Bateson, a noted cultural anthropologist and linguist and the daughter of Margaret Mead, will speak on the legacy of her mother's research, especially debates over nature vs. nurture as explanations for human behavior and difference. These lectures continue the eighth year of the Ruby Lecture Series, which is supported by the Jane Ruby Humanities Fund and brings to campus lecturers such as world-renowned author and illustrator David Macaulay, jazz artist and Wheaton alumna Rose Weaver and noted evolutionary biologist Stephen J. Gould.

WOMEN'S TRACK TEAM MAKES HISTORY

The Wheaton College women's indoor track and field team underscored its dominance of NCAA Division III competition March 9 by doing something no team has ever done: winning four consecutive national championships.
