Wheaton launches new Center for Global Studies
Wheaton opens its new Center for Global Studies next month, led by Dr. Harvey Charles, recently appointed as dean of global studies. The center, made possible by generous gifts from members of Wheaton's Board of Trustees, will emphasize the study of race and ethnicity in a global context.

Meet a Wheaton student: Desiree Aselbekian
Desiree Aselbekian '02 had clear goals when she entered Wheaton in 1999. Her ambition and focus helped her graduate early and have furthered her long-term political goals. But for now, it's off to law school.

A licensed clinical social worker, Gail Oberlin Lynch '63 presents an insightful look at the process of death and grief. Lynch's first book, In Sickness and in Health, chronicles husband Bob Lynch's terminal diagnosis, the barrage of doctors and the realization that the profound connection they shared would soon be broken.

Seeing stars: plan a summer 'star party' this month
Wheaton Observatory Director Lori Agan '98 writes a monthly column for the Attleboro Sun Chronicle describing when you can catch a glimpse of your favorite stars, planets and other celestial wonders. For July, she encourages those new to constellation-watching to form "star parties."

Athletics

Wheaton ranks in top 25 in the nation
Sears, Roebuck and Co. and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA) have announced that Wheaton College finished 24th overall in the prestigious Sears Directors' Cup in NCAA Division III competition for the 2001-02 academic year. Presented annually to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country, Wheaton earned its second-highest ranking in the seven-year history of the award, as the Lyons finished 23rd last year.
