Wheaton wins award for best institutional recycling program
May 9, 2000
Wheaton College is the 2000 recipient of MassRecycle[base ']s ''Best Institutional Recycling'' award. Honoring the municipality, manufacturer, or institution with the most comprehensive recycling plan, the awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at the third annual EnviroExpo at Boston[base ']s World Trade Center.
Paul Riley, Wheaton[base ']s building service manager, credits president Dale Rogers Marshall and Wheaton[base ']s administration for supporting Wheaton[base ']s ongoing recycling programs with environmental audits. Riley also credits the Campus Committee for Environmental Practices (CCEP) and the student environmental group, Helping Out Mother Earth (HOME). ''These groups work hard at sponsoring educational programs and supporting the important waste composition studies that we conduct on MassRecycle day in the fall and on Earth Day in the spring. Checking up on ourselves is the best way to move forward.''
Acknowledging that many groups and departments are responsible for the success of an institution-wide program, Riley also complimented both the building services department and the student body for their efforts in the Wheaton recycling program.
