Wheaton hosts American Red Cross blood drive
April 5, 2000
On Wednesday, April 12, Wheaton College will host an American Red Cross blood drive, sponsored by the Norton Medical Center. The drive will be held in the Atrium of the Balfour-Hood Center on the Wheaton campus, from 12 [^] 6 p.m. All eligible donors, including first-time donors, in the local community are welcome and encouraged to donate.
Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age, in good health and weigh over 110 pounds. An adult body contains 10-12 pints of blood, and the one pint given in donation is replaced within 24 hours. That same pint of blood can be separated into components and used to treat three or four patients.
Drive organizer Merrianne Reardon [OE]02, health center intern, asks that interested donors at Wheaton or in the local community call her before April 12 at 508-286-5384 (x 5384 on campus) and sign up to give blood. Walk-ins will be accepted, but the number of staff on duty will be determined by advance sign ups.
