Painter Judy Lapides to exhibit at Wheaton art gallery

October 22, 1999

As part of Wheaton College’s celebration of the "Year of the Arts", artist Judy Lapides will exhibit a untitled series of paintings in the art gallery from November 14 to December 15, and will give an artist’s lecture on Thursday, December 2 at 7 p.m. A reception will follow the artist’s lecture at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 2.

A former resident fellow at the Vermont Studio Center and at Skidmore College, Ms. Lapides describes her work as "dealing with the emotional power of color and form." The accomplished painter also refers to her paintings as "visual conversations." The works in this collection are rendered in an abstract style, using oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, and collage and oil on canvas.

Ms. Lapides has exhibited her work in Washington, D.C., New Jersey and New York, with shows at the Foxhall Gallery in Washington, the Nabisco and Kerygma Galleries, both in New Jersey, and at the Z Gallery in New York. She has also shown at the Bergen Museum of Arts and Science, the Montclair Museum, and the Noyes Museum, all in New Jersey. This is her first New England exhibition.

The lecture and exhibit are free and open to the public. For times and other information about gallery exhibits, please call Wheaton College at 508-286-3578.
