Best in the U.S.
Wheaton has been named one of the top 50 liberal arts colleges in the United States.
The 2017 College Rankings, published by Times Higher Education and The Wall Street Journal, looked at more than 1,000 U.S. universities and colleges and scored each on 14 areas of performance, such as student engagement, access to professors and employment outcomes.
Wheaton was ranked 137th overall and 46th among U.S. liberal arts colleges, tying with Pitzer College in California. Wheaton moved up 12 spots from its placement at No. 58 when the liberal arts ranking was first published in January 2017.
“This new ranking demonstrates the strength of Wheaton’s connected community in providing an engaging academic and co-curricular experience for our students,” said President Dennis Hanno. “With methodology focused on teaching quality, student satisfaction and student outcomes, this accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire community—faculty, staff, students, families and alumnae/i.”
A key component of the College Rankings is a survey of American college students, which drew more than 100,000 respondents. The survey asked students to rate institutions in areas such as faculty interaction, collaborative learning, practical application, challenging courses, connection across disciplines and social engagement.
In addition to the student survey, the College Rankings results are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, Times Higher Education’s Academic Reputation Survey, Elsevier and the Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System.
Wheaton also has been recognized as one of U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 Best National Liberal Arts Colleges, was included on Kiplinger’s 2017 list of 300 Best Value Colleges and Universities and is listed in The Princeton Review’s Best 381 Colleges: 2017 Edition.
