CBS Evening News highlights work of Wheaton alum
February 7, 2007
The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric highlights 85 Broads, the network begun by Wheaton alumna Janet Hanson '74 to connect and empower women in business as well as women graduate and undergraduate students from the world's leading colleges and universities.
The network news program's report on 85 Broads will be one of the first reports in its new ongoing series, The American Spirit, which CBS describes as "good people doing great things."
For the report, which will air on Feb. 12, Couric interviewed Hanson and current Wheaton student Kellie Chung '09, one of the students from Wheaton who has participated in 85 Broads' undergraduate networking and professional development program.
A former Wall Street executive, Hanson started 85 Broads in 1999 as an independent network for current and former Goldman Sachs women professionals. (The name 85 Broads plays on the address of the investment firm's headquarters in New York, 85 Broad Street.)
The organization has grown to include an undergraduate network, called Broads2BE, and includes a chapter at Wheaton. More information on the program and Janet Hanson is available from the college's alumnae/i magazine, the Wheaton Quarterly.
