Wheaton College junior Michael Freese, a Russian Studies major from Newport, Maine, has won a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship to fund a semester of study in St. Petersburg, Russia, during spring 2007.

The opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall is a musician's dream. Earl Raney, assistant professor of music in performance, has had the chance several times. Raney recently played principal trumpet at Carnegie with the New England Symphonic Ensemble.

Myles Matteson, a 2006 graduate of Wheaton College, was named a 2007 Marshall Scholar today. Matteson is one of approximately 40 college students nationwide to earn the honor, and he is the second Wheaton student to win the award since 2001.

NORTON, Mass. -- Wheaton faculty and students, members of the Sea Urchin Genome Sequencing Project Consortium that is led by the Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, are among the scientists who announced today the decoding and analysis of the genome sequence of the sea urchin, Strongylocentrotus purpuratus.

It is not uncommon for Wheaton students to organize a community service event, particularly for those living in a Beard Hall learning community. But, when the six students in the Peace with the Middle East learning community decided to do something really big to help children living in Israel and Lebanon, they organized a Nov. 11 international benefit concert.
