Winter storm alert and snow removal plan activated on campus

January 26, 2005

WINTER STORM ALERT
A major winter storm is expected throughout the day with significant snow accumulation. At this point we expect the college will be open tomorrow.

However, early tomorrow morning please be sure to check the Wheaton homepage at http://www.wheatoncollege.edu or call the campus announcement line at 508-286-8285 to confirm whether the college will be open as usual, will delay opening until later in the morning, or will close for the day. Please do not call the Public Safety Department or the college switchboard for this information.

SNOW REMOVAL PLAN
Today we are implementing Phase I of our snow removal plan as summarized below.

STUDENTS ARE INSTRUCTED NOT TO PARK IN THE FOLLOWING FACULTY/STAFF LOTS OVERNIGHT AND SHOULD REMOVE THEIR CARS FROM THESE LOTS NO LATER THAN 7:00 PM:

  • Lot 1 (faculty/staff lot in front of Clark Recreation Center and Nursery School)

  • Lot 2 West Section (faculty/staff section in lot along East Main St. opposite YMCA)

  • Lot 6 (faculty/staff lot behind Balfour-Hood Center and adjacent to Science Center)

  • Lot 7 (faculty/staff lot to the left of Haas Athletic Center)

  • Lot 9 (faculty/staff lot adjacent to Science Center loading dock)

  • Bookstore Lot

Another alert will be issued tomorrow morning depending on the length and severity of the storm.

(Our overall snow removal plan has four phases as described on the Public Safety home page at http://www.wheatoncollege.edu/PublicSafety/Snow/SnowRemoval.html and will require students to move cars from student lots on a rotating basis to enable Physical Plant to plow thoroughly.)
