Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony Presents a Spring Concert
The Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony, a partnership between the SMARTS Collaborative and the Wheaton College Music Department, under the musical direction of Earl Raney, will present a spring concert on May 2 at 3:00 PM in the Weber Theatre, Watson Fine Arts.
The Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony, a partnership between the SMARTS Collaborative and the Wheaton College Music Department, under the musical direction of Earl Raney, will present a spring concert on May 2 at 3:00 PM in the Weber Theatre, Watson Fine Arts. Since 1991, the Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony has presented concerts throughout the area while establishing itself as one of the region's leading performing ensembles. Comprised of adults from surrounding communities, area high school students and students from Wheaton College, the Wind Symphony offers its members the opportunity to perform a wide variety of music for wind ensemble and concert band.
The 2004 spring concert will include exciting works by William Walton, Frank Tichelli, Ralph Ford, and the piece, Perilous Voyage, by fifteen year-old Corey McBride, winner of Downbeat Magazine's 2003 composition award. On the lighter side are Bernstein's Danzon, Gershwin's An American in Paris, King's circus favorite, Emblem of Freedom March, Barnes' Carnaval in Sao Paulo, and the Boston Pops classic, Bugler's Holiday by Leroy Anderson. ''This is a concert the entire family will enjoy, there's something for everyone!'' says SEMWS conductor, Earl Raney. Admission at the door is $5 adults, $4 seniors/students, $10 family.
