Davis International Fellowship funds research in Belize

Wheaton senior Chad Taylor, is spendinghis winter break at the Mestizo-Maya village of San Victor in Belize funded by the Davis International Fellowship program. The fellowship provides funds to Wheaton students for international research during both winter and summer breaks.

Under the academic mentoring of anthropology professor Bruce Owens, Taylor ''will look at community and governmental development initiative using critical analysis and evaluation from an anthropological perspective.''Taylor is conducting archival research on the development initiatives in rural communities. He also is interviewing members of the ministry of education, members of the ministry of rural development, and the inhabitants of San Victor. Taylor hopes to learn what the locals and the government think about education development and if there are any conflicts of interest.

Taylor plans a career as a cultural anthropologist after graduating from Wheaton in May 2003.
