Great Woods Chamber Orchestra kicks off inaugural season

The Great Woods Chamber Orchestra opens its first season next month inaugural season under the baton of its conductor, Earl Raney. This auspicious debut concert combines elegant Baroque, classical and twentieth century favorites with a dash of Boston Pops-style holiday merriment.

The Great Woods Chamber Orchestra opens its first season next month inaugural season under the baton of its conductor, Earl Raney. This auspicious debut concert combines elegant Baroque, classical and twentieth century favorites with a dash of Boston Pops-style holiday merriment. The ensemble will perform Mozart's Sleigh Ride, William's Fantasia on Greensleeves known as ''What Child Is This,'' John Jacob Niles's I Wonder As I Wander and many other favorites of the season.

The Great Woods Chamber Orchestra is made up of talented string, woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists and is comprised of Wheaton students, students from area high schools and adults spanning the region. The orchestra will perform at Wheaton's Cole Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.

Earl Raney is an assistant professor of music performance at Wheaton where he is music director and conductor of the Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony. Raney is also an adjunct professor of music at Atlantic Union College. Balancing a dual career as conductor and trumpeter, he is well-known as the artistic director and solo trumpet of the award-winning Epic Brass Quintet.

Tickets for the seasonal concert are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors and $10 for families of four or more. Tickets will be available at the door.
