Thursday, October 17
Rhythm and Verse
The Jane Ruby Lecture Series presents Michael S. Harper, a prize-winning writer, educator and the first poet laureate of Rhode Island. He will read from and talk about his works, which often echo his passion for jazz and blues music. Mary Lyon Hall, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

Friday, October 18
Observatory Open House
Visit the Wheaton College Observatory to view a variety of astronomical objects through the college's many telescopes. Call 286 -3937 for cancellation information in case of poor weather.

Flautas Fantasticas
The Loser Concert Series brings acclaimed ensemble to campus on its first U.S. tour to campus. Concert will feature a program of Brazilian, American and European music spanning three centuries. Before the show, the college will be formally recognized as the state's first all-Steinway campus.

Saturday, October 19
Cheer on the home team in an afternoon of intercollegiate competition

Wheaton Volleyball Tournament , Emerson Gymnasium at noon.

Field Hockey vs. WPI, Clark Field at 1 p.m.

Dedication to the Arts
Cut the ribbons and celebrate the successful completion of the construction of Mars Arts and Humanities and the renovation of Watson Fine Arts at 2 p.m.

The Wheaton Consort: The quartet performs Renaissance and Baroque music on period instruments as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities.

Hear from President Dale Rogers Marshall about current happenings at Wheaton. Then, after the lecture by Edward James Olmos (see below), President Marshall will answer questions. Cole Memorial Chapel, 4 p.m.

Edward James Olmos
The social activist and multi-talented film and television actor (Stand and Deliver, Miami Vice) talks about learning to understand and improve the world. Th event is sponsored by WorldFest @ Wheaton, the Multicultural Center, Educational Council, Intercultural Executive Board and the Speaker Fund.
