Wheaton presents 'The Vagina Monologues'

February 22, 2002

The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler's provocative, witty and whimsical paean to female sexuality, will be performed in Wheaton's Kresge Experimental Theater next month.

The Monologues, which have played in packed theaters around the world, are excerpted from Ensler's book of the same name, a compilation of more than 200 interviews with women speaking freely about the most intimate issues of their sexuality. The women -- a mix of age, race and social backgrounds-- revealed answers that are as amusing as they are poignant.

At Wheaton, the production will be entirely student produced and directed, with performances by Wheaton students, staff and faculty. Wheaton President Dale Rogers Marshall will make a special appearance. The production is sponsored by the V-Day Grassroots Organization -- 10 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will be directly donated to V-Day, a global organization devoted to stopping violence against women and girls. The rest of the proceeds will be donated to local charities with similar missions.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on March 21, 22 and 23 in the Kresge Experimental Theatre in Wheaton's Watson Fine Arts Center. Tickets must be reserved in advance, from March 4 - March 8, by calling 508-286-3575. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors; sales are limited to two tickets per person.
