Wheaton appoints Assistant Athletic Director

February 13, 2002

Wheaton's Director of Athletics, Chad Yowell, has announced the hiring of Pamela Wojnar as assistant athletic director, effective March 1, 2002. Wojnar has served as Rosemont College's director of athletics since 1994.

''I am delighted that we have hired a person with such strong credentials to help lead our athletic programs in the 21st century,'' said Yowell. ''Pam brings a wealth of knowledge and experience needed to assist in the management of a program our size. Our student-athletes will certainly enjoy working with Pam while she helps move Wheaton to a new level.''

At Wheaton, Wojnar's primary focus will be to provide additional leadership for a highly competitive NCAA Division III athletics program, which includes 21 intercollegiate sports and is considered a vital part of the liberal arts experience. Her responsibilities will include supervision of staff and departmental initiatives, scheduling, compliance, game management, championship administration and sports information.

''I am looking forward to joining the staff at Wheaton and to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated student-athletes, athletic department staff and other members of the Wheaton community,'' Wojnar said. ''My goal is to help Wheaton's already stellar athletics program continue to grow and to enhance the other aspects of the students' college experience.''

Prior to Rosemont, Wojnar was employed at St. Mary's College of Maryland for four years, where she served as the senior woman administrator, assistant athletic director, sports information director and head women's basketball coach. Before working as an athletic administrator and coach, she served as an assistant public affairs officer at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia from 1986-1990.

Wojnar earned a master of sports science degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala. She is also a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in English.
