Music Students Speak

Emily Tran, Music Major '11 knows a thing or two about the music department at Wheaton. Arriving on campus familiar primarily with the Western classical tradition, Emily soon discovered that her training as a pianist and singer could serve as a springboard for an exploration of musical cultures from across the world.

While at Wheaton, Emily continued her studies with private study on piano and as a member of the Wheaton College Chorale and the World Music Ensemble. She also completed a semester studying music in Vienna. During her senior year, Emily began to explore the world of composition, taking Professor Case’s seminar in songwriting in the fall, and then writing her first instrumental composition in the spring, a piano trio premiered by the Aurea Ensemble at a concert of Wheaton composers.

Emily also participated in the Lymin' Lyons and in Voices United to Jam, one of Wheaton's many a cappella groups.
