  • Great Woods Symphony Orchestra

    May 7, 2017
    Comprised of Wheaton students, faculty and members of the public, the 60-piece GWSO, under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Delvyn Case, will present Dvorak’s New World Symphony, one of the most famous symphonies in the repertoire. Virtuoso trombonist Achilles Liarmakopoulos, a member of the world-famous Canadian Brass and a Haas Visiting Artist, will also join the orchestra in a concerto performance. Suggested donation $5.

    The Wheaton Chorale and Chamber Singers will be joined by the Oure Pleasure Singers (OPS) in presenting Carl Orff’s thrilling settings of Medieval secular poetry, Carmina Burana, under the direction of Professor of Music Tim Harbold. The concert will also feature the OPS in a set of music under the direction of Christophe Heidbreder. Suggested donation $10.

  • Seán Ó Sé: A Life in Song and Story—Documentary Screening and Concert

    Cork singer Seán Ó Sé’s long and illustrious career has touched all bases in the Irish music business from traditional folk music to variety concerts, céilí band, storytelling, and cabaret. Seán Ó Sé: A Life in Song and Story explores his musical life within the contexts of his deep attachment to the Irish language, the west of Ireland and his passion for his teaching career in Cork City. The film, produced and directed by Professor of Music Matthew Allen, features live performances and interviews with longtime associates from the worlds of music and education. The screening of the film will be followed by a brief performance by Seán Ó Sé, voice, and Matthew Allen, guitar.
