Jascha Franklin-Hodge: Techpaths 4/1

Blue State Digital's impressive list of clients includes the Barack Obama campaign, the It Gets Better Project and the Communications Workers of America. Franklin-Hodge’s pioneering role in the use of social media and online fundraising for politics and the non-profit sector gives him a perspective that will be useful to students beginning to wonder where they might take their liberal arts education after graduation. Says series coordinator Pete Coco, "Jascha's work really exemplifies a certain kind of career you can have with technology: innovative, no doubt, but also rooted in some really thoughtful ideals about democracy and social action."
By inviting a diverse range of speakers to discuss their work, Techpaths aims to engage students with skills and perspective they can cultivate not just to broaden their job options after graduation, but to maximize their impact on a world increasingly driven by digital technologies.
"The idea with this series is to contextualize professional work with technology into the liberal arts and its values,” says Coco. “Technology projects need more people asking the hard questions. What kinds of tools do we want to make? What do we want them to do? Why? Perspective is key."
