Welcome to the New Humanities Liaison!

Posted on February 9, 2012

Pete Coco, the Library's new Research and Instruction Humanities Liaison, joined the LIS department on January 23rd.

As a member of the Research and Instruction Liaison Team, Pete is responsible for research consultations, instructional services, and information resource development for his assigned areas, and assists in supporting and implementing appropriate educational systems and technologies that support teaching, learning, and scholarship. He works with faculty on course and assignment design and teaches classes involving information and technology. Pete also promotes information and technology fluency to Wheaton’s students and is a primary point of contact for LIS academic services to faculty and students in humanities disciplines.

Pete comes to us from the Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, where he served as the English Librarian. While there, he designed and taught information literacy workshops, developed and maintained library collections, provided reference services, and designed online research tools for students. He also collaborated with faculty on research assignments, curricula, and scholarly communications initiatives. One of his greatest accomplishments at GVSU was co-creating the Research Guidance Rubric, now used by librarians and faculty across the country to improve student learning outcomes in information fluency.

Pete received his MS in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2009, after years of teaching literature, composition and creative writing at various Chicago colleges. He also holds an MFA in Fiction from Iowa Writers’ Workshop and a BA in English and History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

If you would like to contact Pete, visit his office in the Library (Room G35 on the Periodicals Level) call him at x3924 or send him an email.
